Regional Data

The data below shows the COVID-19 vaccination progress to date across the nine-county Finger Lakes Region. This data, updated on May 13, 2021, shows that 58.3% of the eligible population (age 16+) have received their first dose of vaccine. 48.1% of the eligible population (age16+) have completed the vaccine series. The map and charts below show the percent of eligible population (age 16+) with at least one dose by county, by gender, by age group and by vaccine type received.

Finger Lakes Region COVID-19 Vaccination by Race and Ethnicity

This table shows the percentage of people who have received COVID-19 vaccination that identify as a particular race and ethnicity, for all vaccinated residents across the nine-county Finger Lakes Region.

A high percentage of individuals did not answer the race or ethnicity questions. So comparisons cannot be drawn between the percentage of vaccinated individuals in any race or ethnicity group to the percentage of that group in the population.

For example, the percentage of vaccinated Latino individuals is 4.3% of the total vaccinated population. The percentage of Latino individuals in Finger Lakes Region is 7.3% of the population. One might assume from this that Latino individuals are less likely to be vaccinated than white, non-Latino individuals. However, 10.5% of individuals did not answer the ethnicity question. If the majority of those who did not answer are Latino, then the percentage of vaccinated Latino individuals could be higher, rather than lower, than their percentage in the population.

We also know that age distribution differs among races and ethnicities. This impacts vaccination rates since an older population (such as Whites) have been eligible for a longer period of time and are more likely to have been vaccinated. Again, this does not allow us to reliably compare percentages in any race category of vaccinated individuals to their percentage in the general population.

Individuals with Missed Second Doses

These are individuals who received a first dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and did not receive a second dose for more than 6 weeks.

Overall, across the FL Region, 14,629 individuals, as of 4/22/2021, have not received their second dose for more than 6 weeks.

This is 3% of all people with at least one dose (and not J&J). This is a significantly lower rate of missed second doses, compared to the national average, as reported by the CDC (published in the NYTimes), of 8%.

The breakdown by age sex, race, ethnicity, county and age groups is below.

The major differences are within counties and age groups. Genesee and Yates have slightly higher rates of incomplete second doses, compared to other counties. Older age is highly correlated with missed second doses, with 65-74, 75-84 and 85+ age groups missing at 4.1%, 4.9%, and 7.0% rates of second doses, respectively. However, we are not able to account for death or out-of-area moves/vaccinations.

Frequently Asked Questions

The dashboard uses data from the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) that is refined by the Rochester RHIO and the Finger Lakes COVID-19 Vaccine Hub.

Data in the dashboard and in the table of weekly allocations are updated weekly.

The Finger Lakes COVID-19 Vaccine Hub dashboard uses data from the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) that has been "cleaned" by the Rochester Regional Health Information Organization(RHIO) and the Finger Lakes COVID-19 Vaccine Hub. In other words, the Vaccine Hub and the RHIO analyzed the data, and removed or corrected incorrect, corrupted, duplicate and incomplete data, to produce an accurate picture of the local vaccination effort.

In addition, the Hub tracker bases figures on the eligible population aged 16 and older.

The New York State COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker bases its figures on the total population –not the eligible population. It uses NYSIIS data that has not been refined by the Hub and the RHIO.
